Make the Switch to LED Parking Lot Lights

Why Make the Switch?

Business owners and managers everywhere are always looking to save money and increase production. One of the easiest places a company can save money is right outside in their parking lot.

Safety First

Whether its a car dealership or a pizza restaurant, most businesses possess a parking lot. Lighting a parking lot correctly is essential not only to the appearance of the building but to the safety of its patrons and employees. According to the latest National Crime Victimization Survey (NCVS) conducted by the U.S. Bureau of Justice Statistics, more than 1 in 10 property crimes—including motor vehicle theft and property theft—occur in parking lots or garages. Properly lit parking lots deter crime and increase safety.

By the Numbers

If the safety aspect of LED lights isn’t enough, the mere financial saving alone can make switching to LEDs even that much more worth it. LEDs require up to 75% less energy in some cases to light the same area effectively, which drives the electric bill down. LEDs also have a lower maintenance cost. Since parking lot fixtures are on average over 20 feet in the air, a company with bucket trucks and lifts are usually required when it comes time to service the fixture. With LEDs, the amount of maintenance needed is drastically reduced, saving your business money on maintenance costs. And lastly, the lumen depreciation is much less in LEDs. In High-Pressure Sodium and Metal Halides fixtures, the light being outputted toward the end of its lifetime could be reduced to about 50% of its rated output. For LEDs, the lumen depreciation is around 15% loss of light at the end of the lights lifetime, drastically reducing dark areas of parking lots and garages.

Case Study: O’Daniel Honda

Superior recently had the privilege of upgrading O’Daniel Honda’s parking lot lighting to LEDs. The project was to replace all 32 of the 1000 Watt Metal Halide fixtures and all 38 of the 400 Watt Metal Halide fixtures to new, LSI LED fixtures. This upgrade will bring a significant reduction in O’Daniel Honda’s energy bill. Below is a video displaying the before and after footage of the lit parking lot.

Matt O’Daniel, Vice President of O’Daniel Honda said “The results have exceeded our expectations. Our lot is tremendously brighter and the bright LED fixtures do an excellent job of highlighting our facility and our inventory. Our monthly electric bills have been reduced by approximately $500.00 and we look forward to eliminating an annual maintenance expense of nearly $7,000.”

“In looking at the before and after videos, my only regret is that we did not do this sooner.” Matt O’Daniel went on to say. “I would highly recommend Rick Swarbrick and Superior Lighting to anyone looking to invest in a quality lighting solution.”
